David Nygaard Fine Jewelers is the premier custom design full service jeweler in Virginia Beach. We integrate technology to custom create each piece and we are happy to use your diamonds, gems and metal. We use a proprietary CAD software to help you visualize the jewelry and then use 3D printing to allow you to actually try the prototype on. We can then make adjustments before we cast it in any number of noble metals- gold platinum, palladium or silver. All rings are assembled and diamonds are set on site by our master goldsmith. If you are interested, please make an appointment with David directly using our appointment scheduler. We keep limited store hours but are open for appointments from 9AM to 8PM.
David Nygaard’s career in gemology began years ago as a child when he collected rocks in the Mohave Desert in California. David continued this hobby in Virginia Beach after his father was transferred here by the United States Navy. David graduated from Kempsville High School and went on to study business at the College of William and Mary, before returning to home. David worked in his mother’s business, Sandy’s Touch of Gold, before opening David Nygaard Fine Jewelers at the current Hilltop location.
David’s love for his childhood hobby grew into a brilliant career as a Master Gemologist Appraiser,™ expert CAD designer, and jeweler. David’s love of the industry and gemology is exhibited by his professional achievements which include being the first and only jeweler in the Commonwealth of Virginia to hold both the title of Certified Gemologist Appraiser by the American Gem Society and the title of Master Gemologist Appraiser™ by the American Society of Appraisers.
David has been a contributing editor of Jewelers Circular Keystone Magazine and In Store Magazine, serves on the Board of Governors for the Jewelers Education Foundation, and is a frequent jewelry speaker both in and out of the industry. David was named as one of the “Top 40 under 40″ community leaders, by Inside Business Magazine, which recognizes both professional achievement and charitable involvement in the Hampton Roads Community. David also serves on the Entrepreneurial Advisory Board for the College of William and Mary Mason School of Business and the Alan Miller Center for Entrepreneurship. David received his BBA from the College of William and Mary and his MBA from Regent University. In 2007, David formed the David Nygaard Foundation 501C-3 charity to promote children’s health and educational needs.
In 2006, David was named the Virginia Business of the Year after successfully expanding his business from one to seven stores in just four years. In recent years David developed a different business model focused on custom designing and on-site manufacturing of those designs in just one store at Hilltop in Virginia Beach. By using CAD systems we are able to provide the exact ring in a few days at a surprisingly affordable price. David is now one of the nations first Matrix Design Certified Master Gemologist Appraiser. His Patented Custom Design Process helps clients design the ring of their dreams with Passion Fire perfectly cut diamonds.
David believes that his business must continue to be a blessing to the community at large, provide excellent product to his customers regardless of price, and must continue to develop his staff to be the best at providing a truly flawless experience to each client.
